Lower screen that scratches the upper screen...I don't know what kind of food waste or sticks or whatever you have all over your screens but they don't touch on a closed DS so you've got something smooshed into that poor thing. The clamshell design protects the screens. Also, while I have not held a Switch "tank" is clearly not the word to use. The GB was a tank. Does your Switch seriously feel like it would survive what GBs can easily shake off?

Follow Ups:

The 3DS problem is a well known one. The lower screen edges stick out too much, which presses into the upper screen. Nintendo even provides a foam inlay to keep between the screens. They knew. Hold a Switch once, its extremely sturdy. The ridiculous YouTube tests have backed that up, a dozen drops on concrete and no real problems.

A foam insert? Which version of 3DS are we talking about? I've had an OG DS, DSi, and 3DSXL, I've played the shit out of all of them and there is zero defect in either screen. They don't touch. The clamshell design *saves* screens, it doesn't usually wreck them. If some particulaly flawed iteration of the DS has this issue that's a bummer, I guess I was lucky to not buy that one. The overall design has no reason to ruin screens though.
