Yeah, me either, and I maxed it. It’s just a shitty game!

Are we finally airing our true feelings about NGPC software? Because Fatal Fury First Contact is one lousy fighting game.

I kind of like it! but I may just be enjoying the weird characters.

Oh shit! Maybe now I can admit I don't like Metal Slug 1st Mission. Fatal Fury I'm still not sure about.

I didn’t really care for either Slug game on NGP since they aren’t really Slug games but they stand well on their own, IMO.

While I do think 1st Mission feels off, I like the fact that you can shoot at the air and have weird stuff like toilet paper or a snake drop down.

I was going to say I don't think I ever even bought First Contact but I just checked and I have it. Apparently it made no impression on me. : o

On an SNK-related note I just played through Burning Fight co-op on PS4 and that was pretty fun. : )

I don’t think there are very many games on NGP that aren’t at least a B-. Fatal Fury isn’t R-1 but it still destroys any pocket fighter of its day, right? It’s better than the GB version...maybe Guilty Gear Petit could give it a run. Pocket Fighter WS as well.

I'm not a fan of guilty gear petit, personally! I do think some of the game gear ports were alright, like fatal fury special. it feels a bit stilted, but then, so does SFII in general, so I'm kind of okay with it.

Yeah, Fatal Fury Special is just fine. Makes you wonder what else could've been done on the system if Takara didn't stop porting SNK fighters to it.

I wonder who they had doing those ports!

The GDRI credits Gaibrain and Aspect for FF Special. Sounds plausible to me. They list Santos for Samurai Shodown. Clicking through various links the evidence for that seems somewhat flimsy.

I recently replayed First Contact and I wasn't impressed. Floaty jumps, mushy chain combos and laggy hitstun are what stood out to me. Sure, it has a neat roster, but what's the point of having access to Krauser and Yamazaki if they play like ass? It's no R-1 indeed.

Keep in mind that this isn’t its own game, it’s a portable version of the FF at the time, Real Bout 2. It has those dumb chain combos because they are in all the FFs of that era (after 2 Special, before Garaou). I really like those games and to me this is decent at being one of those. It’s not an amazing effort, but I’d assume most people don’t like it mostly because they don’t like Fatal Fury in general from that time (and also because it isn’t as well excecuted as other NGP fighters).

I love Real Bout 2! One of SNK's best games from that period. First Contact is a poor imitation, even if I wish it wasn't.
