Fort Smo
by Smo

This level's a great example of compact design. Th' title fort isn't actually all that big, but there are so many places to go and so many intersections of floors at different altitudes that it seems as if you'll never be able to explore th' whole place. Th' complex spaces keep th' fightin' fresh an' movin'. An' best of all it even kinda looks like a cool little wooden palisaded fort sittin' out in th' desert.

A carefully measured hexagonal wall encircles th' entire fort. You can run along th' wall's upper battlement, or through its ground floor tunnel that hides a number of goodies ya won't wanna miss. Th' fort itself covers two levels an' a little one-room shed. Three plank bridges connect th' 2nd floor to th' palisade wall, an' three (I think) tunnels from th' fort's basement connect to th' shed an' th' exterior of th' fort. In th' interior there's a large opening in th' floor between th' second an' first floor that looks down over a large open room an' th' entrance to th' basement. You kin kinda think of this area as th' center that th' rest of th' level revolves around. It's a wonderful design that keeps everyone movin' an' swirlin' around without gettin' bored.

Don't fergit ta search through th' palisade's lower level, especially if yer in trouble.

Because th' design's a bit complex
it really pays ta know where yer goin' in th' fort. There's an item in one'a th' basement caverns that you won't wanna miss, fer instance. There are a couple shotguns scattered around that definitely come in handy in th' Fort's close quarters. An' although th' rampart at th' top of th' wall's an obvious place ta go, don't fergit ta search through th' palisade's lower level, especially if yer in trouble. On th' whole there ain't a whole lot of health items around so you'd better learn where they're at.

A nice result of this level's architecture is that you kin play this level with three people an' it won't seem too empty, an' you kin play it with eight people an' it won't seem too crowded. Even if ya can't see yer opponents, th' fort's compact enough that you'll usually be able ta hear th' sounds of battle no matter where you go. This is one level where you'll appreciate Outlaw's stereo sound.
