Amazin' what a
difference one little texture can make in a level. Fer th' OBG posse's
Fort level, Frenchie mixed up a new, fresh texture that totally
transforms this level an' sets it apart from every other Outlaws
level you've played. It's th' same transformation ya may see every
winter, dependin' on th' climate in yer region. It's snow.
Th' cool tones of th' light coating of snow on th' ground an' cliff
ledges, combined with th' deep blue sky conjure up a nippy northern
locale fer this fort. It really is a fantastic effect,
exactly opposite th' firey red feelin' of Lucasart's
"Orleans" level. Ya kin almost see yer breath condensin' in front
of yer face an' you'll welcome th' cheery, warmin' glow of yer
gatlin' gun's muzzle flash. If there was only a crunchy snow footstep
sound I'd be runnin' ta put on a scarf an' mittens.

such luxuries in this level. In fact there
are some downright morbid touches, such as a small plot of unmarked
graves, one of which is dug up, th' hole leadin' down inta th'
dark, dank basement below th' fort. It's scary, but intrepid
adventurers'll find th' trip well worth their while. Th' fort
covers three stories (countin' th' basement) an' a walled courtyard
with a small outer building connected to th' second floor by a narrow
walkway along th' outer cliff wall. Th' level itself is in th' shape
of a torus (think donut) with a smaller cabin set opposite th' fort,
a natural arrangement fer Capture th' Flag games. Th' cliff walls are
quite innovative in their use of narrow, slanting ledges that you
can creep along ta reach an advantageous position.
Th' level reveals close attention ta detail an' ta framerates.
I thought th' graveyard with it's multitude of gravestones would
surely slow my fps, but I found that it was cleverly constructed
ta use th' minimum amount of pieces possible an' didn't slow my
display at all. There are all kinds of 'lil nooks an' crannies ta
creep into an' item placement an' balance has been carefully
considered. This level is a classic, an' you'll play on it so
long ya won't even notice th' cold. Jus' don' stay outside too
long, you'll get frostbite! Well, not on yer trigger finger.
