Rattlesnake
Ravine was one of th' very first Outlaws add-on levels ta come
out, an' it was certainly th' first good one. Even now it's still
quite unique in its character an' I still get disoriented in
th' twists an turns. This level has gone through numerous revisions
as th' designer continually refines th' gameplay. It's now jus' about
as polished as they come.
Th' Ravine's a large open canyoney place. A dry riverbed runs though th' middle
of it with higher mesas on either side. Then outside th' mesas are
a lower level of ground, an' on th' outer borders of those are higher
ledges. There's a wood snipin' tower at each end of th' ravine.
Three bridges cross th' ravine, two at either end that cross to
th' low ground on th' other side, an' one in th' middle that goes
from one mesa ta th' other. That bridge is th' only way up to one
of th' mesas which makes it a great place ta plan yer defense. Ya
kin only get out of th' ravine by th' slopin' path at either end.

You have to stop an' think "Okay now how am
I gonna get over there?"

Jus' imagine what happens when th' lead starts
flyin' in a large match. I remember playin' Capture th' Flag here
way back when I was still a bit of a newbie, an' even when I got
th' flag it usually took me a while ta figger out how th' heck ta
get back ta my own base. That's not bad, mind you. This level is
very challenging, and besides th' one mesa there are a number of
other spots that you have to stop an' think "Okay now how am
I gonna get over there?" It's something of a large rocky maze
where you can see th' end and it looks easy ta get to, but
somehow it ain't.
For a large level Ravine boasts excellent framerates. It's a great
place for Capture th' Flag, Team Play an' large deathmatches.
It looks good with careful attention to texturing, particularly
with lighting effects--note th' shadows under th' bridges an'
th' shadows thrown by th' lantern in th' cave. Good stuff. If
you've got about 6 or more people go try out th' Ravine. Oh an'
watch out fer that rattler... if ya lissen careful ya kin hear 'im.
